Atheists, without a Creator, how could human rights like life and liberty be inalienable?


Most atheists claim that we have natural rights to life and liberty that do not depend on a Creator. However, they see human opinions or collective decisions as the source of these rights. History shows that many, perhaps most societies exercise little respect for life or liberty, killing or enslaving people for expedience. Unless an authority higher than individuals or nations establishes our rights for all time, an individual or government can abolish them, making rights alienable rather than inalienable. Where am I going wrong?
