Are there any ebook readers that you can read pirated ebooks on?

I heard the Sony Reader has anti-piracy measures that prevent you from reading ebooks from torrent sites. I would be very much interested to know if there are other readers that don’t have such limitations. I am interested in a purely hypothetical capacity, obviously.
Just to clarify, not talking about software like Adobe or Foxit I mean an actual handheld electronic ebook reader.

The Sony e-reader will display plain text files well. I have downloaded ASCII files that are public domain from project Gutenberg. The Sony software will display PDF files, but they have to be formatted for the smaller page size.

It is only true that books that you buy are locked to your reader.
