Atheists: What do you think of this Atheistic religion?
Posted by admin | Filed under Religion & Spirituality
First, i am a non-religious Atheist.I found this religion yesterday on R&S. It is called the Raelian Movement. What interested me was the fact that this religion is based on intelligent design. However, before you immediately discredit it, you should know their version of intelligent design is quite a bit amount different than theistic religions. This is what caught my eye. I wanted to see how you can explain intelligent design AND be Atheist. But the concept of the religion in a nutshell is we were created by a human race like us who were created by a human race like them so on and so forth to populate what we know as the universe. Their is some conflict with current theories in my opinion. But after downloading the free E book ( intelligent design) to see what this religion is about, i found it makes much more sense than any theistic religion( it explains all those as well) . I would say it is most similar to Buddhism but takes it a bit farther. I found the book to be pleasant reading( as in not a bunch of mumbo jumbo) and in the least entertaining as i am big into sci fi and astronomy.
So i am wondering what do other Atheists think of this religion? My own view is it didn’t convert me as i found a few things that i could not agree with. One being have faith and believe and then they ( creator race) will come. An advanced race that promotes an intelligent society ran by intelligent people( geniuses) would know that such people require evidence to believe in something( To be fair they do have a reason for this given our obvious aggressive nature such as the military). It is what sets us apart from the goddidits. Yeah i know a wall of text but you cant fit the whole concept of an atheistic religion in 5 lines, unlike christianity which can be fit in one word, BS
forgot to add the link :

Andrew their are in fact several atheistic religions. Do look up the word in the dictionary.
and honestly i am a bit disappointed with the answers i have seen so far. Atheists are suppose to be open minded to embrace knowledge and science. But many of you are judging like a christian and in fact are wrong in many of your assumptions.I am not promoting raelian, but i was expecting a little more of an informed answer not a oh i have no clue what is about so it is BS. In fact many of things you believe can be found in this religion.
Valekhai: That is not how it goes in the book actually close but no. The prophets are not biological robots but real people.

“i am a non-religious Atheist”; a little redundant
Also, atheists don’t believe in any religion. So “Atheistic religion” is an oxymoron.

Every other atheist on this board knows the word “atheist” is not a proper noun. Now you know, too.

They are whack jobs.
These are the morons who claimed they cloned a human about 8 years ago. They are just nuts and it ***** they are the same species as me, let alone atheists.

Do atheists have to believe the same thing, safety in numbers type thing?
I am not a number, I am a free man. – But you may call me number 6 if you wish.

I’m afraid you’ll find that your description of Christianity actually applies perfectly well to Raelians as well, with the only exception being that Raelians are also stone crazy.

Yeah they’re nutty, but for more harmless than Xians!

***i found it makes much more sense than any theistic religion***
You say that like it’s a selling point. Most comic books make more sense than theistic religions. Doesn’t make them real.

I think it sounds like a good plot for a science fiction movie. I think its pretty far fetched and has no real evidential basis otherwise. I’m a bit lost on how that resembles Buddhism at all but you read their literature I didn’t. I think if you think Christianity is BS you should also be able to reason out why I’m gong to tell you that this Raelian Movement is BS as well.

I saw that on Star Trek DS9. I thought it was just a plot device to explain why human, klingons, and vulcans all looked roughly the same. Now it’s a real religion. Who knew?
Ah well, it’s not like a science fiction author has never given birth to a religious movement before.

you dont need any religion or dogma to lead a simple and natural life. just go ahead. dont get trapped in verbal war.

According to a presentation I heard one of them give, they believe that humans were created by aliens called the Elohim. The Elohim want us to be happy and peaceful, so they sent humanoid robot to Earth to teach us about love and peace. Moses, Jesus, Muhammad, Buddha, etc. were all robots.
Two problems:
1. If they want us to be peaceful, they’re really freaking stupid about it. Conflicting religions have been one of the largest causes of violence among our species.
2. Why would they create us, and then want to pacify us. My theory is that they created us as a source of food or labor, but made us too strong and could not control our population. They know that they can’t beat us in a ground war, so they are trying to pacify us and get us into a state where we will accept them with open arms. Then it’s off to the labor camp/slaughterhouse.

So you’re basically talking about population seeding?
That’s not Religion.
That’s (at best) Science Fiction.

Don’t be a fool. First, they’ll take your mind…then your money. Atheism is not a religion and cannot become one. Buddhism is not atheistic, but non-theistic, since Buddhists don’t actually deny god or affirm him. This makes Buddhism really an agnostic religion.
The real underlying question here is whether the claims of the Raelians can be supported with actual evidence or does it require faith? If it requires faith because its claims cannot be supported by evidence, it is a mythical religion, whether it claims a god to exist or not…like the scientologists.
I’m fairly sure you’ve noticed that all religions make unsupportable reality claims which can only be believed “on faith alone.” Atheists tend to demand that reality claims be supported by solid evidence.
Sounds like you’re being ****** into a not very inventive cult. Be careful.
