I’m trying to volunteer for this fashion show but it’s like trying to talk to a brick wall. What is up?

I contacted the production assistant for Charlotte Fashion Week in like early March, even late February. I finally get a word back, and go to the first Model Casting Call during Spring Break to talk to her. I e-mail to thank her for inviting me. No response. April, May comes. She says there’s an interview for the first group of volunteers/interns and it’s of course…during college exam time (for me). I contact her and tell her I can’t come, because of exams, but I would love to schedule a time soon after. She agrees. And then…I never hear back from her. I call her like 20 times. She finally answers. She says she has work up to her eyeballs, blah blah blah. Never hear back from her. I contact the creator of the Fashion Week on facebook, and he says he will get in touch with the publicist to see if she needs assistants for writing in the magazines/newspapers. Nothing comes of that.
3 DAYS AGO.
I get an e-mail for the second group of volunteers/intern meeting. I call her. I e-mail her. Nothing. I am polite throughout the whole ordeal, always thanking her for her time. WHAT THE **** AM I DOING WRONG?
The one slightly positive result from this was that I paid attention to the list of designers showing…and I contacted one of them and asked him if he needed help and he said yes, and to contact him again in August. I don’t understand what I did wrong to never hear a response from that woman, when I submitted my resume, was always polite and kind to her and made clear that I would work hard. I don’t understand why anyone would ignore someone that is willing to at least volunteer.
Sorry if that was like reading the 8th Harry Potter book with 3928753 pages.
