How come my computer turns off when I use Roxio DVD Creator 2009? I have a HP Pavillion Slimline and am ?

I have a HP Pavillion Slimline and my computer seems to just shut off when I try to burn certain AVI files to make them DVDs. I use Roxio Creator 2009, is there anything that can be done? I don’t think it is because mycomputer overheated.
