How do I get copy rights for an eBook that I’m creating? Do I actually need copy rights to sell it?

Hello,
I’m writing an eBook and nearly done…
Mi intention is to sell it online but I don’t know if I actually need to have copy rights to protect it or if I could just say that nobody is allowed to resell it… What should I do?

All you need to do to protect your intellectual property rights is to put a statement near the beginning of the form –
Copyright (C) 2007 by John Doe. All rights reserved. This work may not be reproduced or re-transmitted without permission.

Yes. You do need to get a copyright in order to protect both yourself and your profits from unscrupolis people. I think you can apply for it through the patent office but if you cant afford that then you can use the poor man’s copyright which is to save a copy of your work on cd then mail that copy to yourself using certied mail. Then if you have to go to court, you can take the envelope with the cd in it and use that to prove both ownership and authorship. The envelope has to remain unopened except in front of the judge for veracity.

Harvey. I enquired about this from writers on line(type in writers), can’t quite remember domain name. If you live in the states, then you can register with the registery of copyright, for a modest sum.You don’t need copyright to sell your book. But you haven’t any come-back if someone chooses to copy your book and resell it. There is a danger with e-books anyway. I would approach a publisher. The only one I have on my list is – I expect there will be a usa branch. Good luck!

Why would you do this? If it’s any good, send it to a publisher or an agent. Writing a book with the intention of selling it as an ebook off your website is like aspiring to be a stripper instead of a dancer.
BTW – do NOT go to authorhouse or anyone else that isn’t going to pay YOU for your book. The average advance from a legit publisher is around $5000.
