How do you set up an e-book?

Hello,
I would like to set up an e-book for my father. Is an e-book where you can put stories on line and people can read part of it and then pay to read the rest? What is the best software or system to do this and how is your work protected? I would appreciate any advice or suggestions on how to do this. Thanks.

An e-book is just an electronic book, so it can be a free download, or a pay-to-download or, as you suggest, read part and pay to download the rest.
There are two main routes to go but the starting point is the same for both. Write your story in something like Word.
Then choose:
1. Save your book as HTML and then compile it into an .exe book using an HTML Compiler. There are free versions available ( search for Free HTML Compiler) but the paid for versions will give you greater security.
2. Save your work as a .pdf , using Adobe Acrobat or a free pdf converter.
