It’s hard, because when reading and your mind wanders, you can more easily go back and pick up the thread of the story. A good narrator can make a huge difference. I listen on my iPod and the Russian novels were hard, because of the unfamilar names. When I first listened to A Thousand Splendid Suns, I went to a bookstore and read the first chapter to better understand the story and characters’ names- after that it was easier. I never listen when tired- it puts me right to sleep. Plot driven stories are easier because they are maybe not so nuanced and you read or listen intently because it is so interesting.
