is it legal to put pictures found on search engines into your ebook?


im writing an ebook and want to put pictures off websites in it. the ebook will be public. is this legal?
Share and Enjoy: These icons link to social bookmarking sites where readers can share and discover new web pages.

    Not unless the source website explicitly states that it is. Or, to help you, when you’re performing the search on Google, in parentheses add “public domain”.

    Otherwise, it’s better to go to and do an advanced search for your desired term. Scroll down to the bottom and choose “Search through Creative Commons” and click the top box, “Licensed for Commercial Content”.

    There may not be a huge selection of what you’re looking for, but at least you’ll know that you’re not in danger of getting sued further on down the road.

    For prep work, you might also want to Google some sources of public domain photos…

    It’s not legal unless it is stated that you are free to use the images. To find images to use on my sites I always check out. This is a community where people can share their photos for free.
