What is your favorite free online Wiki creator and why?

Also, if you know of downloadable wiki software to create a wiki locally (on my local laptop), let me know. I would like to create “quick reference notes” when I attend meetings. I would use this only for myself, however, the online Wiki creator would be a branch off my website.

Wikipedia uses a program called “Mediawiki”. It is open source, so you can download it for free. It is the exact same thing as wikipedia, so if you like wikipedia, you’ll like mediawiki.

You’ll of course need a web server installed on your computer/server, as well as PHP and Mysql. However, there’s plenty of free webservers available for free.

EditMe.com – it’s free and you can have multiple users if needed (I think you have to pay if you don’t want your site viewable by the public.) Cheap rates though.

The site is easy to create and maintain. You can use the WYSIWYG editor or go to the HTML editor. You can create templates, use CSS and JavaScript if you want. You can change pretty much everything about it.

Something better than wiki will be created soon.
