Why do you Christian Scientists, Branch Davidians, Unification, and Jehovah Witnesses have such strong unity?

This morning my pastor was continuing our Sunday school lesson about the subject of church unity. We recently finished a discussion of “The Bait of Satan” book by John Bevere, so this was a follow up lesson. Today my pastor was making the point that the only true source of unity in a local church is mutual commitment (i.e., total commitment to our great God/savior and Creator of every thing, Jesus Christ, the Alpha and the Omega, also called Jehovah God).
Then an older man, probably in his early 90s, raised his hand to make a comment. He said that there was also another kind of unity, which he described as “fake unity.” He went on to explain that in the various cults, the members are taught that the only way of having any chance of getting eternal life is by being a member of that group. (We may call this “exclusiveness.”) So if the members do not “tow the line,” then they risk disfellowship by the elders or by the governing body. And if you are disfellowshipped, (and if you died in that “apostate” condition), then you would definitely not have eternal life. So he argued that there is a HUGE fear element in this. As he put it, very simply, FEAR is the main reason why you see such extraordinary “unity” in the various cults.

NO, Im a JW and I am not afraid , I love my fellow JWs and I love jehovah, we all do or we would **** each other and split, but instead we promote peace and unity ——- everlasting life depends on your actions and your relationship with jehovah he is the one who decides not elders or governing body,,, they help us ,, we are not afraid of them

yes absolutely!! It also helps when they separate them from others and pound into their heads misguided and ********* interpretations filled with that fear. I always tell people– If you find yourself isolating from your family and longtime friends to only be with “church” people and the pastors (for lack of better word) say your supposed to do that because your separating yourself from the “world” according to scripture. You better step back and take a real honest look at the doctrine and the teachings.
God bless.
edit: I want to address the “fear” I don’t think it’s the fear of the person. It is fear of eternity. They are taught that they MUST be perfect. They they must follow all these rules and regulations to be with God. The Bible clearly states that not one of us humans will ever be good enough to be sinless and will all fall short of the glory of God. These cults use that to make people follow them by saying “let me help you be a better person so you can get to heaven” Only accepting Jesus Christ as the son of God and the PHYSICAL ressurection of our Lord and Savior can a person get to heaven and after accepting him, God sees Jesus’ perfection on you and not your sin. We as mere humans cannot take away or add anything to the perfect sacrifice and physical resurrection of Jesus by what we do or don’t do.

well if i was going to a ‘building’ that was teaching from some book other then the Bible…..that would be my FIRST red flag of what a cult started out to be…………….
Cause in THE Bible i see where God says , if anyone Preach and or teach any other Gospel then what was given of Him…..let them be accursed……..
That’s another reason in that SAME bible Jesus said this ;
“”Rev 18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. “”
who is her ? Mans doctrines, traditions ,Customs , denominations , etc etc ‘Buildings they call church’

Why don’t you focus on getting off that Broad Road that leads to destruction instead of debating what this or that certain Religion or Cult teaches.
Jesus said: “Go in through the narrow gate; because broad and spacious is the road leading off into destruction, and many are the ones going in through it; whereas narrow is the gate and cramped the road leading off into life, and few are the ones finding it.”—Matthew 7:13, 14.
When Jews & Jehovah’s Witnesses were in Concentration Camps for their Beliefs under **** Rule- where were the ” Pastors” that should have spoken out against such actions?
Why even the Pope at that time kept his Mouth shut while many Jews were sent to the Gas Chambers. Your Pastor could Probably get a Sermon out on that instead of Focusing on the Witnesses negatively.

No I wouldn’t.
It sounds like he thinks your “cult” is better than other ones, which is his right.
Ultimately, I doubt many, if any, person(s) of a specific faith, believe that those with Diametrically opposing views, are A ok and correct in their views. One nice thing about Witnesses, we don’t tell people they’ll burn forever if they aren’t following the Bible.
Is it possible that Some members of Any group, join/stay in, out of some form of fear?? Sure, however that doesn’t mean the majority feel that way, it simply means the ones who are claiming to believe a certain way, are doing so for the wrong reasons.
